Fifty-five million years ago, great hairy beasts called mammoths roamed the world. With tusks as long as 14 feet, these massive herbivores scraped through the frozen tundra to get at life-sustaining vegetation. Studio Greytak’s Olympus 3 presents a perfectly preserved tip of an ancient mammoth’s ivory tusk suspended between two copper rings atop a Mappa Burl Veneer. Copper, the metal of the magician, shines here with a beautiful patina that accents the colors of the tusk. Also quite rare, Mappa Burl, from the peculiar growths on endangered Black Poplar trees, brings the elements of hope, rebirth, and divination to this extraordinary piece.
