Kyanite
Kyanite conjures images of a far-off planet where perfectly smooth, orb-like buildings nest between great blue columns of rock. Scientists tried to call this mineral disthene, meaning “two strengths,” because it is nearly unbreakable across its short dimension and incredibly fragile along its length. This gives kyanite a human-like duality that is even more endearing considering its metaphysical power is to encourage individuals to take risks for love. Named for the Greek kyanos, “dark blue,” it inspired the color, cyan, which embodies kyanite’s other super strengths, bringing calmness and tranquility to those it touches. Some say kyanite enhances telepathic abilities and, if this is true, one imagines superheroes back on that imaginary planet strolling along sidewalks suspended in air.
