Golden beryl, also known as yellow beryl or heliodor, is a stone of light. Golden beryl’s siblings include emerald and aquamarine. Traces of iron give this beryl its yellow tint. Like others in the family, it is a hard, durable gem with exceptional clarity. It was only found occasionally until a German mining company discovered deposits in Namibia in the early 1900’s. The company’s executives named the stone heliodor and commissioned a set of jewelry for Kaiser Wilhelm II and his wife.
