Fire Agate

Fire agates tell the story of their birth better than any other variety of agate. An iridescent glow lights the natural reddish brown stone from within as though molten lava still flows beneath the surface. Made in the air pockets formed in lava as it bubbles and cools, agates consist of bands of silica gel that snuck into the cavities through centuries of dripping water. In the iron-rich soil of north central Mexico and southwestern US, the water also brought in iron oxides. Opaque layers of red-tinted hematite or limonite alternate with the translucent silica. The reflection of light between these layers causes the flash of color.

Metaphysically, the blaze within the fire agate is tempered by the slow, calming frequency for which all agates are known. The result is a steady, vibrant energy that stimulates creativity and expression and keeps passion burning for the long term. Carry a piece of fire agate during rigorous physical activity for an extra boost of endurance and energy. Fire agate counteracts timidity, giving one the courage to stand up to bullies or speak up when it is most beneficial.
