Over the centuries, copper ore deposits weather, leaving behind minerals that can take the form of azurite or malachite. Or, in some cases, a combination of the two. Azurite-malachite, also known as azurmalachite, forms in geochemical environments that alternate between conditions required to create each independently occurring mineral. It is this alternating of conditions that creates the beautiful bands of green and blue in azurite malachite. There are no mines that specifically produce azurite malachite; instead it is found at shallow depths in the oxidizing zones above other deposits, mainly copper.
Over long periods of time, bright blue azurite undergoes a chemical change and evolves into the deep green malachite, thus the two are forever intertwined. Energetically azurite-malachite embodies the properties of both stones but also brings some of its own. Azurite, the stone of heaven, brings insight into all areas of life and promotes intuition. Malachite encourages action and change. In partnership, they enhance psychic abilities, help one find one’s place in the universe, and act as a bridge between the intuitive and intellectual self.
